“Alexandra Mas is a complex artist with that endearing singularity. She draws her strength, just like her fragility, in a novelistic family history that is both authentic and captivating: heiress of a Russian noble and intellectual lineage, she is born in exile in Romania, where she knows a harsh and austere life, with no frivolity or superfluous, clocked by a permanent quest of the essential. With a personality and a character forged by this hard existence which may not feed the body but it certainly nourishes the spirit and brings, with a particular acuity, a hungry mind opened toward the world. Her art is made from these personal ancient quests, profound and recurrent, hiding in her films, drawings and between the pages of her manuscript, hand-sewn booklet she started early in her career and still not ended.” Séverine HARTENSTEIN

Art director and co-founder of Mas Tassini Studio, since 2016. Passionate for arts since her childhood Alexandra Mas enrols the Art Academy School at 14 year old continuing with a bachelor in Plastic Arts at the UNAB (National University of Fine Arts, Bucarest) She starts to show internationally since she is 17 years old. She is already working in art direction for a fashion photographer and from behind the camera to its front was just a step. Becoming a model gave her financial freedom to continue her studies and art projects. In 2004 she graduats top of her year obtaining a Master in Design and Interior Architecture at the Superior Modern Arts School, Paris. As a model she experienced the arrival of digital photography and the visual manipulation of female figure. She saw her colleagues, incredibly beautiful women, being the victim of surgical manipulations. Her approach as an artist to this social phenomenon is very committed. Through her studies she masters photoshop and slowly develops a strong signature in visual art. She works into proving retouching has taken a wrong path and underlines the impact it has on women identity. In her years directing and teaching at the talent post-school program in Beverly Hills, JCLA, she changed the school curriculum and worked with the students on their body image perception. She also does conferences in superior schools, like IFAT, Vannes and LIMART, Bordeaux, about chromatology “Science & View of Colours” or the trans-aesthetic era, with her “Regard sur l’Art” where she points out the power of images and how they are used in advertising. With Mas Tassini Studio they do works proving fashion image can be made with no retouch without falling into the hyperrealism. examples of non-retouched photographs. She is also the author of “The Surprising history of women beauty - and how we are conditioned by it” and she keeps a blog on the studio’s website. She says “Art is a road between our souls and our minds” The key to success has been putting emotion at the center of her activity. “Artist fetishising the human body (and fist of all, women’s body) with all the representations, Alexandra Mas defines herself as a beauty addict. But pay attention: this, in our corrupted world, subject to all kinds of manipulations – especially those of the body appearance – it does not exists, it remains a fleeing, inextinguishable fantasy. Seize the beauty? Unfortunately, nothing will be as expected, the real endlessly collapses on itself. The vanity thematic has a reason to take a certain role in her paintings, pictographies or artist’s performances, obvious or rampant it plays a permanent part. It is told: we are the first victims of our consented servitude to this illusion” Paul ARDENNE
