Dr. Angela Shearwood is an accomplished professional with over 20 years experience in Pediatric Physiotherapy. As a Pediatric Physiotherapist, Dr. Shearwood works with children to ensure optimal physical function and development. Dr. Shearwood is concerned with movement, co-ordination, posture and the cardiorespiratory system. The aim of the paediatric physiotherapist is to provide a program that the client will enjoy, while encouraging them to participate and become independent. Her aim is to minimize the effects of physical impairment to promote optimum function and musculoskeletal development. Advice on activities and stretches offered by the physiotherapist can assist in maintaining full range of movement and prevention of contracture. With a wealth of experience and a wonderful background which includes working in different countries which provides her with a unique global perspective on physiotherapy and how it relates to children's overall health and their families abilities to help and cope with such issues. Dr. Shearwood assesses the referred child and gives parents and/or carers advice regarding handling, positioning and treatment through play and/or exercise. Physiotherapists work closely with families, carers, teachers, doctors and other health professionals. The approach is holistic and practical, with an emphasis on gross motor function and posture. With a passion for helping children and families afflicted by such issues as cerebral palsy, developmental delay and other conditions, Dr. Shearwood looks forward to opening up her own practice to continue to aid and provide quality service and care to those in need.
