Ana Paula Barros works at Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa in the Gambling Department on gaming and gambling laws, focusing mainly on lotteries and betting, including horse-betting. Ana prepares the law projects and presents them to the Portuguese Government; serves as lawyer at the European Court of Justice in defendce of the Portuguese gambling laws, including public procurement, as the company has to comply with the public procurement procedures and administrative law. Aside from her legal projects, Ana is also an author. She published a book in 2009 about consumer protection and finalizing a book about games of chance, including lotteries and betting in Portugal - from the past to the future. It is Ana’s analysis of gaming, games, and gambling laws in use since the XIV Century until the decade of XXI century, from the acceptance to the prohibition of the games, their use by the Authorities, and their resilience and "Fenixability". She focuses on differences and similarities of the casino games, lotteries, and bets; the games structure, mechanics and methods; similarity of the games around the world. Ana also provides pro-bono work with the nationality law, immigrant’s rights and legal needs of Portuguese immigrants, mainly with the public authorities. Her future goal is coming back to politics mainly to preserve young players to get problem gambling.
