Ellen Comvalius is the Technical Advisor Health Systems Strengthening for Comval Consulting. Ellen has more than 25 years of professional experience in her career and the program development. Ellen has 12 years of experience working in the Global AIDS Program of the United States Government. This is the PEPFAR program. She has been a project officer, served on many technical working groups and country team and served on annual review panels for the Country Operational Plans. She has been Director of the Schistosomiasis Control Program in Suriname. Ellen retired January of 2018. She is currently working as a Technical Advisor Health Systems Strengthening with Comval Consulting, her own consulting business that she recently just started. Ellen’s main role and responsibilities as of 6 months ago with her latest position at the US Government was that of Technical Advisor Human Resources for Health consist of public health analysis, overseeing cooperative agreements and implementing strategy in programs in about 12 countries. Ellen was prompted to get involved in this profession by way of natural progression, starting in Suriname where she studied biology then public health. Ellen's area of expertise is managing programs and managing public health programs. Her highest level of education is a Master’s in Biology with majors in Parasitology and Immunology from the University of Utrecht as well as a Master’s Degree in Public Health specializing in Epidemiology from John Hopkins University. Ellen has received several group awards with people and companies she has worked with and also a Global Pin Award in public health. In the next few years Ellen plans to continue to grow her consulting business and continue to develop and continue to make a difference in the field. Ellen bases her success on where she started her career in Suriname and how the situations were there and how far she has grown. She is looking forward to networking and connecting with other like-minded professionals, and to gaining the recognition and credibility of being a member.
