My grandfather was a carpenter that loved roses. Woodrose Company is named in his honor. My husband retired from the Air Force. We have two children, five grand children and five great grand children.
I grew up on a farm. When I was ten years old, my dad died in a cotton gin accident and my mother continue to work the farm while raising three childen. I was the oldest so a lot of responsibilities for the daily working of the farm fell to me, including taking care of my three month old sister while my mother was doing other work. I admire that my mother was able to do a "man's" job and keep us on the farm during this time. When I was in first grade, I became intrigued with the skills of the drum majorette and the twirlers and wanted those same skills. Over many years I became an expert with the batons and was a twirler with the schools band for six years. Determination paid off. In 1961 I was employed by a construction company putting in the communication cabling for missile silos. The drafting department amazed me on how the plans were drawn to show the work to be done. When I started college in 1976, the first class I completed was basic drafting. I continued college courses part time in three areas, computer science, construction technology, and business management and carried a 4.0 average. After working for three construction companies, I started my own construction company in 1983. At the time I knew of no other woman that owned and managed a construction company. From my experience with the other companies, I thought there must be a better way to do business with the client, subcontractors and suppliers. And through the years we proved it. My company and I have won many awards through the years both locally and nationally for construction excellence, marketplace ethics, exemplary performance, outstanding service, social responsibility and many "Top" lists in several categories through the years. Since 1998 through the Woodrose Academy, classes and workshops have been presented, such as "Introduction to Construction", OSHA training, first aid & CPR training, personal and business development, mastering relationship marketing and other seminars.
