José Sluijs-Doyle is the Chief Executive of African Initiatives, a small and vibrant international development organisation in Bristol, UK with women’s rights, girls’ education, livelihoods and health rights programmes in Ghana and Tanzania. Following a marketing career in the private sector in the Netherlands, José pursued a career in International Development for the last 17 years. Her experience includes the design, management, monitoring and evaluation of social development programmes with a particular focus on HIV and AIDS (DFID, EU and World Bank funded). Organisational development, capacity building, and the use of participatory approaches are close to her heart. José has a Business degree and an MSc in International Development from the University of Bath. She has lived in Southern Africa and Guyana from 1996-2000 and has regularly worked in eastern Africa. In the UK she has worked for VSO and Futures Group Europe, and as a freelance consultant for UNAIDS and Comic Relief
