I live with my husband, Fabian, and our three kids, Gabriela, 19, Manuela, 17, and Guilherme, 12 years-old.
I come from a family of medical doctors, who certainly had influenced me. I got graduated in 1992, and started my Medical Residence Program. Community Medicine, Obs &Gyne, Oncological Surgery which I concluded in 2001. I started my private practice while I was working at Santa Casa Tertiary Obstetric Emergency, where I stayed until 2003.In 2003 I went to Obstetric Center, and I stayed there until 2012. I was dreaming to live abroad, and I traveled to Brisbane -Australia, to try to be a medical doctor there. I did the AMC-Exam ( Australian Medical Council Exam) which I was approved, but I could do the second part of the exam (Practical) because I was missing my kids too much( I stayed in Brisbane for two months...) I have gotten already a Master degree in 2012, and in 2014 I started my PhD program at Federal University from Rio Grande do Sul , in Obs&Gyne. My thesis was very interesting: I tested a monoclonal antibody in chriocarcinoma cell line. Choriocarcinoma is a rare tumor, that arises in placenta, and therefore acometes young women. I was delighted with Reserch world, and now I was wondering to direct my life to research in basic area of work. My thesis could prove that this new drugs are effective in this kind of cells, which made me very proud of my research; now we are submitting our manuscript to publish in a good Journal

Dr. Leticia Viçosa Pires is an OB/GYN physician who has practiced medicine for over 25 years. She operates a private clinic that provides basic health care services as well as services in GYNECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS and oncology for residents of the town Porto Alegre particularly women. She also provides or has provided services in the area hospital. At the start of her medical career she completed a voluntary internship in General Surgery (in 1993) and a residency in Community Medicine at the Murialdo Health Unit (in 1994) and another residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics from 1995 to 1997 at FFFCMPA and Hospital Complex of Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Porto Alegre. She also teaches and will begin a new program teaching at the Federal University of Rio Grand do Sul at the start of the semester. She is also a published author with articles on subjects related to her areas of practiced and has contributed a chapter to a book. Dr. Pires chose her work because she "loves birth" and "likes talking to women." She says she identifies with the problems many females face and she believes it is important to "take care of women." She loves her work and her passion and dedication have led her to professional success. Dr. Pires considers the lives that she has saved as a doctor (with "Gods help") her greatest achievements and specifically recalls a few times when she worked in the ER. In the coming years, Dr. Pires would like to move away from clinical work to full time academic work teaching the next generation of doctors and also doing research. She is very excited to do more research in molecular biology and immunology. Dr. Pires looks forward to connecting with other women and working together to help each other. She notes that she was not very aware of facing discrimination as a woman in her field until her two daughters pointed out so many things to her that opened her eyes. Dr. Pires thinks of the high incidents of infant mortality and deaths of women giving birth in Brazil and sees how all this is related and how helping other women is even the more important.
