Mariela Del Carmen is a Social Professional for Fundación de Comunidades Vulnerables de Colombia. She has been in her career field for over 20 years. Her day starts in the office receiving communications and calling families that she has messages for. She says the community they work with is very vulnerable. The foundation works with families that are affected by Huntington’s Disease. There are no cures or treatment for this disease that is genetic and hereditary. She studies social work because she identifies with the profile of a social worker and she enjoys helping people. Mariela says she is best known for the work she has done for the past seven years with the foundations. She specializes in family hardship and graduated from Universidad Pontifica Bolivirana in 1988. Her research was published when she wrote “Problems with Huntington Disease in Columbia” in 2016. In the next few years she hopes have a more macro position bettering the lives of the families affected by the disease. Her goal is to finish the projects that are being started and to finish them in a high level both personal and in the community. She is looking forward to networking and connecting with other like-minded professionals, and to gaining the recognition and credibility of being a member.
