Michaela M, Arriaza is the Director of Babytime. She has over 12 years of experience in her career field. Michaela is a doula and works with mothers postpartum to give them tips and to guide them with taking care of their baby. She gets in contact with sponsors to discuss things they would like the company to promote or address with the community, manufactures baby slings and makes sure the supplies for the slings are all in stock. She also talks to pediatric residents to discuss the care of babies and mothers postpartum.
She was inspired to go into the field from having her first daughter and not having enough information regarding breastfeeding and newborn behavior. Her expertise are in helping moms to trust their instincts. Michaela has a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality from Boston University in 1997. She belongs to CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Association) where she received her doula certification from, and is faculty for CAPPA Latin America.
Michaela has a weekly segment on a two hour radio show where she discusses being a doula, motherhood and caring for babies. She has many publications online and in magazines/newspapers writing about what doulas do. In the next few years she hopes to conduct trainings throughout Latin America and expand the company internationally. She also hopes to perform a TedTalk in Spanish and start a podcast eventually.
Michaela says the key to her success has come from annual trainings and adapting with new information and the hospitality education has helped her connect with the moms. She says the highlight of her career has come from seeing how firsthand information could help moms and seeing how Baby Time has grown. She is looking forward to networking and connecting with other like-minded professionals, and to gaining the recognition and credibility of being a member.
