Place and Date of birth: Florence, 17 sept. 1958 Education: Master’s Degree in Physics (Quantum Optics), University of Florence, 1984 Professional experience Researcher in Pirelli Labs, 1985-2006 (applied research in fiber optics, micro-devices, optical gratings, fiber lasers and surgical lasers in cooperation with the National Institute for Tumours in Milan, Prof. P. Spinelli) . Later became responsible for European Union financing of basic research for the same Company. Left professional activity on 2006 and since then is self-employed. After having passed the TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language at the NATO base of Camp Darby), with a score of 98/100, was appointed official interpreter at a NATO Congress in Capri, 1982. She performed since then several services as translator for scientific subjects (relevant papers were published in physics, biology, medicine reviews) in the academic environment.. During her student years, Norma attended three summer camps for the study of the German language, of which she has therefore a basic knowledge. Horse-related experiences: After standard training, Norma chose dressage as a specialty . Willing to understand the underlying process of judging, she attended a Dressage Judges course. She passed the relevant examinations, and having found in the subject a profound interest, decided to proceed on with this activity only, abandoning riding dressage tests herself. She kept “home riding” through the years though, and is now riding at St Geoges level. Norma was appointed GP Judge on 25 Nov 2010, after 12 years long training and experience. Norma is now working towards the examinations for FEI (International Equestrian Federation) international judging.
Norma Ridi has over 20 years of research activity (physicist) in an industrial lab. She is a PSG level rider. Norma was appointed to Grand Prix Judge in 2010, and is presently working towards the exams for International judging. She is fluent in Italian, English and has a basic knowledge of German.
