My name is Padminee Chundunsing and I have lived in Surrey, BC since landing in Canada as a Permanent Resident on March 26, 2004 and became a Canadian Citizen on July 9th, 2009. I am currently on my second mandate as the President of the Federation des Francophones de la Colombie Britannique (since 2015) and also became the President and Founder of the Canadian Mauritian Association of B.C in 2017. Over the years I have served as Board Member of several organizations. In November 2017, I was awarded the Senate 150th Anniversary Medal. The Senate 150th Anniversary Medal was created to recognize Canadians or Permanent Residents actively involved in their communities who, through generosity, dedication, volunteerism and hard work, make their hometowns, communities, regions, provinces or territories a better place to live. On the occasion of the celebration of Canada 150, my story was printed in CBC / Radio-Canada's CANADA 2017 - RACONTE TON HISTOIRE remembrance album, which was launched on November 2nd, 2017. CBC published stories of people who have fascinating and inspiring stories and these stories are a snapshot of people, places, things and events that make our identity and our future shine as nations. In September 2017, I was also nominated as one of the Four Women Leaders in the Francophone Community across Canada by the Alliance des Femmes de la Francophonie Canadienne. I am also a member of the Women Executive Network. I have been actively involved in the United Way Campaign through my work at the Canadian Tourism Commission, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and the British Columbia Automobile Association. I have also volunteered for CIBC Run for Cancer and the World Partnership Walk in 2017- an initiative led by the AGA Khan Foundation. As a volunteer Board member, I have attended and participated in AGMs and many Provincial and Federal meetings, inaugurations and francophone ceremonies. These are ongoing and are my most enjoyable activities so far. BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT: My biggest achievement so far has been my ability to give up every comfort I had in Mauritius and my courage to bravely start from scratch in Canada, where I have studied further, consistently been employed in my field of studies and slowly climbing the ladder and looking forward to serve not only on the provincial stage but also on national level.
