Rita L. Vivero is a Country Medical Director for Merck. She has 12 years of experience in big pharma companies within the medical field. She is not only an executive but also a mother of two teenagers. Before her career in her actual field, she had the chance to work in her country's National Parliament as a Health and Gender advisor for a Congresswoman. On top of her current responsibilities she have been nominated to represent her country upon the Women in Leadership Initiative at Merck, which opens a new opportunity in her life to resume working for improving the presence of women at all levels. She says the pharmaceutical industry is a wonderfully fascinating field of work, an interesting conjunction between medical science and commercial connotations. Within this field she has grown rapidly and important in recent years developed the ability to find business opportunities based on the scientific strengths of a drug and safeguarding first and foremost the ethical stance in an increasingly commercial environment instead of medical. Rita says the challenges in the area of medical management are many and with personal growth she seeks to address these challenges by increasing the participation of physicians throughout the pharmaceutical chain. There is still much to be done and strengthened in the great space that remains to be covered between these two phases. Rita’s goal is to participate in that gap and she hopes that one day there will be equally important doctors at any stage of the development and use of a medicine: from its creation and research, through its ethical commercialization and ending in its prescription and use. Rita has over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical field. She has received her M.D. in 1999. She is a speaker for vaccines and speaks internally for her company. Rita is a member of ISTM and was published in a magazine out of Ecuador for her research. She is looking forward to networking and connecting with other like-minded professionals, and to gaining the recognition and credibility of being a member.
