Dr. Saida Rasul is a dentist of 26 years, currently working as a consulting dentist at Aga Khan University where she has helped to set up two preventive dental programs as part of the hospital systems, operating worldwide. Saida is also senior lecturer in the Section of Dentistry at Aga Khan University Hospital and an avid international and community volunteer. She is now in the process of working with a team of volunteers to set up a dental hygiene program at the Aga Khan University to train students from East Africa, Pakistan and Afghanistan, enabling them to improve the oral health and general health within their rural communities. Saida has been on the front line for securing the Centre for Performing Arts on Hastings Street in Vancouver. She championed the creation of the Centre for the Comparative Study of Muslim Cultures and Societies at SFU by chairing the fundraising campaign for the centre. With her husband, Firoz, Saida’s philanthropic organization involvement includes the British Columbia Cancer Agency, United Way and BC Children’s Hospital, among others. A graduate with a Doctor of Dental Surgery in Dentistry from the University of Toronto, 1978, Saida began her education at the London University where she received a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree, 1975. She has been named Order of British Columbia 2015 and awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2000, she received the Leadership Vancouver's Outstanding Graduate Award. As a Muslim who believes, “when you educate a woman, you educate a community,” Saida works with dedication and strives for excellence. She owes her success to her parents who have provided her with utmost support and encouragement.
