Taniya Hussain was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1969 and migrated to London UK in 1970, where she has lived all her life apart from 4 years from 1987 to 1991, when she studied at Coventry University. She graduated from Coventry University in 1991 with her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Applied Social Science and Qualified as a Social Worker with her Certificate in Social Work, only being the age of 22 years old. For the past three decades she has devoted her life being a Social Worker working with children, young people and families who are on the margins of society. She has extensive experience as a practitioner supporting individuals who have been abused physically, emotionally and sexually as well as those who experienced neglect. For the last 21 years, Taniya has worked in a busy multi-disciplinary team in London Borough of Wandsworth as a Case Manager supporting and supervising children and young people in the criminal justice system. She is very skillful at establishing rapport with involuntary clients who have been traumatised by child abuse or by witnessing domestic violence or who have been criminally and sexually exploited as well as those traumatised by the rising gun and knife crime epidemic affecting the UK. Taniya is a Qualified Counsellor who studied Freud, Klein. Winnicot and Jung at University of London’s Goldsmiths College, graduating in 1993 with an Advanced Diploma in Counselling. She has merged this psycho dynamic training with her training since 1992 in Islamic Psychology, Spirituality and Philosophy to develop her own unique system and approach with Clients that is wholistic and focuses on healing individuals physically, spiritually, psychologically and emotionally. As well as devoting her life in working in Social Work settings, she has worked since 1987 with Survivors of Sexual Abuse as a Volunteer Counsellor for the Incest Crisis Line, Muslim Womens Helpline and An Nisa Society and has been a Consultant to these and other UK organisations: such as Muslim Youth Work Foundation, Name it Youth Project and Psychological Think Tank 720. Her Consultant roles are varied as she brings to these organizations her formidable skills and knowledge of Social Work, Youth Justice and working with Muslim children, young people and their families. She loves working in collaboration with individuals, groups and organisations and is proud to highlight one of her achievements as helping An-Nisa Society organise in 1993, the first ever Conference in London UK to discuss child sexual in the Muslim Community. Taniya brands herself as a Trauma Recovery Coach and founded her business Taniya Hussain Coaching and Consultancy Services in January 2018 so she can offer her extensive skills and experience to Business Owners and Professionals who want to beat burn out and deal with their personal trauma When Taniya is not working, she loves to watch films in the cinema or go to the Theatre as well as spend time with her family, her husband and three sons She spends some evenings and weekend engaging in interfaith dialogue with Jews and Christians. You will find her sometimes leading Quranic study workshops or delivering Friday sermons at Inclusive Mosque Initiative in London. She enjoys writing poetry and you can find her reflections at taniyahussain.blog. Her articles have been published in June 2006 in Youth and Policy https://www.youthandpolicy.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/youthandpolicy92-1.pdf and in the Jewish Renaissance Magazine in October 2006.
