Tara Laurie is founder and CEO of Youth World Education Project, dedicated to bridging the gap between parental involvement, education, and workforce development with a system of supports that prepares youth to compete in the global economy and build social skills, resiliency, and self-sufficiency. A self-proclaimed “home builder,” Tara builds connections between communities and both educational and employment opportunities, promoting the value of community empowerment and greater investment in people and neighborhoods.
Driven by a desire to catalyze positive change, Tara believes the best means of bringing about change is through education. She believes that every individual can learn given the right circumstances. Tara finds great reward in her work and is passionate about helping make a positive impact on the lives of others. She is a member of The National Council for Negro Women and enjoys traveling, dancing, and cooking.
Tara has a B.S. in Psychology and a M.Ed in Educational Leadership with principal certification. Throughout her professional career, she has served as a child group therapist, educator, and capacity building specialist. She has served as a social worker, aiming to increase the number of low-income students prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. Her academic and professional careers have helped to lay the foundation for her proudest achievement—starting her own nonprofit agency to reduce the number of disconnected youth and families, while bridging the global achievement gap.
