Dr. Eva Adriana Wilson is a psychiatrist, innovator, author and pioneer in her field. Currently located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, she is the Founder of Inspired Living Medical, a Psychiatry practice based on a wellness model and with an emphasis on resilience, prevention and early intervention. She is also the Founder of the Association for Positive Psychiatry of Canada, a multidisciplinary and international collaboration focusing on the dissemination of research about the non-medicinal aspects of wellness, including psychological, behavioral, and social interventions that have been shown to promote physiological changes supporting the biology of resilience (www.appc.ca).
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Winnipeg, Dr. Wilson went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Medical Doctorate from the University of Manitoba, as well as a Masters of Medical Education in Curriculum Studies from Acadia University. She completed her Residency Program in Psychiatry at Dalhousie University.
Dr. Wilson has now accrued over 20 years of experience in community mental health activism and innovation, led by an ardent passion for her work. She has pioneered initiatives to prevent social isolation in Nursing Home tenants, enhanced the resilience of at-risk youth, and introduced physician based Conflict Resolution training. At her clinic, Inspired Living Medical, she has integrated Positive Psychiatry into her practice and offers online support and information to patients and front line care providers in the community in addition to facilitating workshops and training sessions. Dr. Wilson also contributes professionally as a dynamic presenter at National and International level conferences. Although her work is predominantly in private practice, she is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine, teaching and mentoring residents and interested front-line workers in the field of mental health.
Dr. Wilson is dedicated to promoting wellness through coaching people to listen to their strong and healthy self and empowering them to live their epic life. She has also published a children’s book, My Power Ball, artfully designed to teach children how to hold onto their sense of confidence in the face of the comments and put downs of others. She strives daily to create and distribute mental health resources promoting resilience and to facilitate the creation of healthy communities.
There is now an abundance of research supporting numerous ways we can empower professionals and the public to optimize mental health more than ever before, complementing the more traditional medication and therapy approaches. Dr. Wilson is working to galvanize the masses with this information to promote social change by distributing it in understandable and engaging ways, and to work with other change-makers to collaborate in leading this process. In collaboration with other organizations, Dr. Wilson hopes to create an epidemic of mental health!
