Laura Mae Lindo, Director of Diversity and Equity at Wilfrid Laurier University, is a higher education professional with a PhD in Education and expert on diversity, equity and inclusion, dedicated to creating more opportunities for women, especially women of color. In her current role, Laura manages three offices: Diversity and Equity, Student Services and Leadership, and Entrepreneurship. She implements education and development for the institution as well as curriculum and senior level leadership for the Vice President of Student Affairs. Laura strives to be a mentor to young women of color, encouraging these women to take risks and develop their own personal drive to succeed. She wants to encourage women to realize they are able to achieve their goals and reach their full potential into senior level executive positions. Laura is most proud of seeing her students achieve their goals and success as many do keep in touch to thank her for her support and mentorship that has made them successful. With an extensive academic career, Laura lectures at the University of Prince Edward Island where she once taught Technology and Education, Culture and Society, Integrated Foundation and Pre-Service Student Supervision. Laura lectures on racism in the university sector and has been a guest lecturer and motivational speaker for lawyers and future leaders. Laura’s goal is to open a school for alternate higher education where the curriculum will include new ways of addressing social problems and helping students utilize the resources available to help achieve their goals. She plans to continue mentoring and working to build a bigger vision for young women, especially young women of color.
