Maria Jesus Carrato is currently the CFO and Legal Advisor for SM in Spain. She has been with the firm for over 12 years starting as Group Treasurer then moving on to International Finance Manager, Working Capital Management, Risk and Control, Consolidation, and Audit and Corporate Taxation. She was then commissioned to develop the implementation of The Internal Audit Department and the Internal Audit Director. She has been an International Finance Specialist for over 25 years. Before starting with SM, Maria spent nearly 9 years as Global Risk and Treasury Manager at MPG HAVAS Media Group. She also worked 3 years as Treasury Director at Unidad Editorial which is parent company of El Mundo Newspaper. Maria worked in CASER Saving Banks Insurance Division as Treasury Director for 4 years and was part of El Corte Ingles, Spain's largest department store chain as Junior Financial Controller. Maria holds an MBA from ESDEN Business School and a Master's in Treasury and Cash Management from The Instituto de Empresa in Madrid and a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from CUNEF. She is a Member of The Treasury Association of Europe and ASSET in Spain. She attends and participates in Financial Congress Conferences in London, Spain, Portugal, and currently lectures at The Instituto Empresa in Finance and Cash Management, as well as contributing articles in Banking and Finance in Spanish publications. A passionate philanthropist, Maria is very active with NGOs including ACNUR in Spain, Save The Children, and The International Red Cross.
