Personal Information
Patrice Caprieta is a Civil Engineer for The Government of Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Works and Transport since 2004. She is the Chief Planning Engineer responsible for the Highways Division. She drafts all the policy documents related to highways and manages projects that involve highway instruction including related projects like the installation of all utilities (water, electric) and underground cabling. She also supervises a group of engineers.
Patrice says she was prompted to go into this field when she had a teacher who was an engineer who encouraged her to pursue engineering as she had a great math aptitude. Patrice does not do any public speaking or lecturing at this time. She says the key to her success has come from the support of her family.
In the future she hopes to return to the university for a second Bachelor’s in the Social Sciences and to become the Permanent Secretary and Head of Ministry. She says her biggest achievement was when she took over a highway expansion project midway through that had a few issues and problems and successfully completed it expanding the highway from 4 to 8 lanes in both directions. She is looking forward to networking and connecting with other like-minded professionals, and to gaining the recognition and credibility of being a member.
