Dr. Vivian L. Carter has over 20 years in her field, and is the Department Chair at Tuskegee University. Her day consists of early morning conference calls, dean and faculty meetings, course instructions, and research. She sees a need to change things the way things have been done, and the need in presenting facts to policy and to inform the next generation in a quality manner. She specializes in community engagement for cancer research in rural communities. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma, earned in 1998. She belongs to the sorority Sigma Theta, Sorority Incorporated, and the National HBCU Research Network. She lectures at Missouri State University and the Morehouse School of Medicine. She published a chapter in a book, Working Women and the Invisible Legacy, published by Common Ground, Negro Educational Review, Preventative Medicine Report. She won the Distinguished Chair for Tuskegee Award, and she will be running the Science Lab for behavioral sciences or being a Dean. The keys to her success have been her passion for the craft, her research, teaching and service. She loves looking back on the success her students and seeing them succeed. She is looking forward to networking and connecting with other like-minded professionals, and to gaining the recognition and credibility of being a member.
