The Worldwide Association of Female Professionals Recognizes Maureen Higgins
Maureen Higgins is the Vice President of Integrated Network Operations and Information Services for an Alberta based electrical utility. An Operations and Information Technology executive with over 28 years of experience Maureen has worked diligently to fine tune her experience in business management, leadership and strategy, Maureen oversees approx. 160 employees and several managed services agreements. Maureen’s portfolio includes corporate information technology (IT), operational technology (OT), telecommunications, cyber and physical security, power system operations and facilities. Maureen is a strategic visionary leader with a clear sense of purpose and urgency when faced with adverse business scenarios. She is skilled at establishing operational excellence within a diverse culture, translating conceptual ideas and models into growth and operational strategies. Focused on innovation and bringing value to the overall business in the areas of; Strategy, Relationship Management and Return on Investment. Maureen has the ability to work with and influence traditional engineering mindset through multiple approaches.
Maureen has also worked to develop her understanding of corporate governance. Over the past couple of years she created a corporate governance structure for a critical operational area. The structure was to inform senior leaders across the organization of key risks and mitigations plans. This committee, which Maureen chaired, also recommended prioritization of key initiative and mitigation plans to the executive governance committee for oversight and alignment.
Enterprise Risk Management is also an area in which Maureen has developed her business acumen, leading the company in developing a revised functional risk matrix and prioritization plan to identify and mitigate high risk areas in her portfolio. Maureen has able to leverage this practical application of governance, along with her learning from the ICD program to create a holistic and pragmatic governance approach.
After earning a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Calgary, Maureen went on to complete a Master of Business Administration from the University in 2004. She served as Director of the Calgary Public Library and serves their Finance and Audit Committee as well as the Governance Committee. Her past Board experience includes the Bethany Care Foundation on both the Finance and Audit, and Investment Committees. In addition to her role as VP of Integrated Network Operations and Information Services, she held the role of Interim Chief Operating Officer last year.
Maureen credits her success to being articulate, thoughtful and professional. She has brought and continues to bring strong leadership capabilities and understanding of a regulated environment to the Board, and to every task she undertakes. She continues to reside in Calgary, where she keeps abreast of causes in human rights, child welfare and the environment.
